Loading System
Hydraulic Jacks of 150 MT capacity with a pressure gauge of 700 kg/cm2 and least count of 10 kg/cm2. The test was conducted by the reaction method of loading. The reaction obtained from the hydraulic jack is made to rest on a steel girder resting on two supports on the ground. The jack reacts against a frame attached to the top of the test pile such that when the jack is operated, the pile gets pulled up and the reaction is transferred to the ground through the supports, which are at least 2.5 D away from the test pile periphery.
Measuring System
Dial gauge of 25 mm range with an accuracy of 0.01 mm Settlement was measured by four dial gauges placed diametrically opposite to each other and fixed to a datum bar. The datum bar was housed with two spikes at the end of the datum bar embedded well into the ground. Datum bar supports were at a distance of 3*D (subject to a minimum of 1.5 m) from the edge of the piles, where D is the pile stem diameter of circular piles.
